Whims

Coffee and chocolate are period.

Heraldic displays brighten even the darkest halls.

Children are very period, and we love the sound of children’s chatter and laughter.  We hope to promote Children’s Activities of all sorts for all ages at events.

Recognition:

Recognition and Encouragement are the domain of all.

Inspiration comes in many forms and from many places, as does encouragement. If you see a beautiful display of art, a dazzling display of courtesy, a quiet act of service, give that person a token and/or a spoken “thank you.”

Tokens are not just for Peers to give.

Inclusivity:

Create a space where everyone feels welcomed – or welcomed back – into an inclusive community.

Treat everyone with respect.

Err on the side of overcommunicating with each other rather than assuming.

It is good to be supportive of other individuals and communities that you already take part in.  It is great to support other individuals and communities in which you don’t typically participate.

Our society and kingdom are made up of many different communities centered around diverse pursuits. The success of the whole depends on the successful cooperation and collaboration between all these communities. If you don’t fight or fence, volunteer as a marshal. If you don’t (or can’t) do art, help set up an A&S display. If you don’t do archery, or thrown weapons, or any number of things, go and volunteer to help.  The less insular we are, the better we are.

Court Etiquette:

Getting called into court is a good thing.

Please don’t joke that people are in trouble.  Many individuals become anxious about standing up in Court, and we want to make it a safe space for all.

We will announce ahead of time the list of people we would like to see in court, so people are aware and can celebrate their friends’ accomplishments in person.  We will also be continuing to use the list of people who would like to opt out of their name being announced.

Please know that not every Order needs to speak for each elevation.  If the person being elevated only wants one or two speakers, that is fine.  However, we do ask that elevation speakers speak for 2 minutes or less.

We will be working with the Heralds to keep court smooth and as brief as possible while still celebrating the People of the East.
